Oh man, this vid. I must have been one of the last fandom people to see Pacific Rim. It was a very surprising Christmas present from my brother, and I ended up watching it that night and falling head over heels in love with it. I haven't been this obsessed with a movie since I don't know when -- maybe NEVER. But even while I was watching it, I knew I'd HAVE to vid it and was excited to see that it got requested for Festivids.

I started working on it right away, thought of the song a couple of days later, and made good progress, but wasn't sure if I'd submit it right up to the end, and then ended up basically finishing the other half of it during the last night before Go Live and uploading it an HOUR before the deadline. such stressful. many headache. so panic. wow. T_T
Submitting it so very late meant that I had to leave it with a few things I wasn't quite happy with, but I corrected some timing issues in this final version, replaced some clips, and I feel a lot better about it now.

Despite what my original summary said (due to me being unimaginative and wanting to include [personal profile] such_heights' prompt), in essence it's really about Mako and Stacker. But it didn't feel complete without a bit of Raleigh in there -- and then I also had to do this thing with this line, "and in the winter night sky ships are sailing". DID YOU NOTICE? DID YOU LIKE IT? SHIPS ARE SAILING! SHIPS! MAKO/RALEIGH-SHAPED SHIPS! I was so pleased with myself for that one. :P

AND NOW I CAN FINALLY REBLOG ALL THOSE PACIFIC RIM POSTS FROM SUCH_HEIGHTS THAT HAVE BEEN PILING UP IN MY TUMBLR DRAFTS FOR A MONTH. GOODBYE.

Lyrics

Taking over this town they should worry,
But these problems aside I think I taught you well.
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run.
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run.

And in the winter night sky ships are sailing,
Looking down on these bright blue city lights.
And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait.
We're here to stay, we're here to stay, we're here to stay.

Howling ghosts – they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
A lionheart.

His crown lit up the way as we moved slowly
Past the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind.
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We're still the same, we're still the same, we're still the same.

Howling ghosts – they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.

And as the world comes to an end
I'll be here to hold your hand
'Cause you're my king and I'm your lionheart.
A lionheart. [8x]

Howling ghosts – they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
A lionheart. [4x]

I was so glad to see so many Pacific Rim vids, and yours is absolutely wonderful :D
This song fits so well and you did great matches with the lyrics (I particularly like "the sea that's painted black, and "we're here to stay" - oh god, feelings). Stacker as the king and Mako as the lionheart is so perfect - and by the way it's the first vid to this song I've seen that does not feature a romantic pairing and it's so refreshing.

I wasn't even aware that it's apparently a well known song until people started commenting on that. :D I'm glad you think it's refreshing -- I did consider using the song for Mako & Raleigh, but that felt too predictable and it's so much more perfect for Mako and Stacker. Thank you!

Gorgeous. This is a great song choice. Tying the King and Lionheart lyric to both Stacker and Mako's more familial moments and their respectful working relationship worked really well to unify the whole thing and show how there's no compartmentalisation there, their respect and love are constant, even if they act differently in different contexts. It's such a strong and wonderful relationship and you did a brilliant job with it here.

I was really hesitant to submit it to the con, so it's especially awesome to hear that people who saw it there liked it. Thank you!

There was a lot of clapping. :) After your vid I heard a few people say they have to watch Pacific Rim now. I can't think of a higher praise than that.

I ran across this on tumblr ages ago, but I finally came across this in my tabs again. This is wonderful! You picked the perfect shot for the line about the glowing freaking crown, and I totally got how you made Mako as the lionheart and Stacker as the King.

The way you sorted out dealing with three verses that were basically the same thing was genius too. You built up the tension to the catharsis of the final verse and all the monster destruction perfectly.

This was really moving - how you showed Mako and Stacker, but firstly Mako, being part of the fight against the kaiju. I loved the intertwining of their past, present, the effect of the kaiju more globally. Some excellent matching of clip to lyric.

I don't know what makes me so emotional about this movie, but I really love it. And Mako and Stacker's relationship was so amazing, it was gut wrenching when he died. I love this vid, you did a great job of showing their relationship.
